IHDR’s Mission is to help achieve health equity in South and Central Texas, the United States, and beyond by producing innovative, community-informed basic and applied research that uncovers the root causes of health disparities.

We strive to support our affiliates’ conduction of innovative studies integrating biological and social determinants of health, capturing the ways in which (dis)advantage gets under the skin, and designing and evaluating pioneering community-informed programs to improve health equity.

IHDR is now also home - along with the main site at UT Medical Branch in Galveston - of the Texas RCMAR, an NIA-funded Center to promote research on Minority Aging Research, with a special (but not unique) focus on Hispanic populations. More specifically, the Texas RCMAR provides funding, mentorship, and training opportunities to junior investigators interested in Center-relevant issues. For more information on the RCMAR, click/tap here. Be on the lookout for the RFA for pilot applications in early 2024.
